Modes of Transport

How Modes of Transport Work

TraveledMap uses an external service to calculate routes and automatically selects the shortest path. The modes of transport are provided for informational purposes and have some specificities:

  • The "ferry" option only applies to trips that explicitly include a ferry crossing; depending on the data coverage of the external service, no route may be offered.
  • For hiking, since not all land trails are always listed, some routes may not appear.

Therefore, the availability and accuracy of routes depend directly on the quality of information provided by the external service.

Trace the Path Between Your Steps Using .gpx or .kml Files

However, it is possible to use the option "Trace the path between your steps using .gpx or .kml files", available here: https://traveledmap.com/pricing. This feature allows you to import a .gpx or .kml file, which are standard formats containing route coordinates, commonly used by GPS devices and other navigation tools.

If you have this feature and a .gpx or .kml file, you can import it by going to your trip, then the "Steps" tab. Click on "Create a Specific Route", check the "Use a file" box (1), then click the "Browse" button (2) to select the file from your computer. Once the file is imported, click "Validate Route" to display the route on the map.
